Slaybaugh Elementary School

Distance Learning

Students in Amber Sandoval's second grade class at Slaybaugh Elementary School participated in a digital learning network event entitled "Our Solar Neighborhood" with the NASA Space Center located in Houston, Texas and Undermountain Elementary School located in Sheffield, Massachusetts on Wednesday, January 11, 2006.  The students interacted with Rene, a NASA Education Specialist, via the schools video conferencing system as they learned about current NASA missions and how NASA uses the information gathered to further exploration of space.  Prior to the event, students completed projects describing the distinguishing characteristics of each planet in our solar system, the distance between them and the paths they travel that were presented to both NASA and Undermountain Elementary School.

Students Veronica Glick and Kelsey Ballard present their project on Venus to the NASA Education Specialist and

This is the image our students saw as they interacted with the NASA Education Specialist recalling facts from the pre-conference activities they completed in school.
Our students can be seen in the picture in picture frame, while Rene is on the big screen.

Interactive Museum

Mrs. House's class had been studying Rocks, Minerals and Fossils. They held an
interactive museum on January 27 where the students actually taught other Slaybaugh student's a science lesson.  Slaybaugh students had the opportunity to make a fossil, mine for gold, make a volcano, and check out rocks and sand under magnifying glasses. Mrs. House's class worked on a power point presentation that continuously played about what the boys and girls had learned.

Olympics

The Slaybaugh School is ready for the Olympics!!!  The first and second graders have been working on lessons associated with the Olympics. The main hallway has many different aspects of the Olympics displayed.  With the help of Mrs. Nardone, Torino was brought to Slaybaugh School.  We held our own Opening Ceremonies for the Olympics on Friday, February 10th.

Valentines to the Troops

The boys and girls of Slaybaugh sent heartwarming Valentine's to our troops serving overseas.  The children also sent our soldiers some chocolate treats!
