A
Penny Auction to raise money for the Sunshine Foundation will be held on Friday, March
24th at 6:00 PM. The Sunshine Foundation will use the proceeds to send a very ill
child and his/her
family to Disney World. Community members
who wish to donate new item(s) may use the drop
off box
located in the front office of the High School.
The
month of January begins with the introduction of the word “Acceptance.” Teachers and students quickly adjusted to
“2006” as the year opened smoothly.
On January 9th and
10th, a ring assembly was held for sophomore students during
homeroom. Due to the large class
numbers, the auditorium could not accommodate the entire class, therefore, two
assembles were needed. The Balfour
representative presented information on purchasing class rings.
Our band/orchestra performed
for the Egg Harbor Township Community on Thursday, January 12. The performance was exceptional and revealed
the outstanding musical talents of our high school students.
The high school held Teacher
Advisement Day on Tuesday, the 17th of January. This day provided teacher and students to
discuss scheduling for 2006 –07 school year.
This time also strengthened teacher-student educational relationships,
which is a suggested recommendation of the school reform movement.
Our Spanish-American Club
held its 2nd International Night on January 20, at the high
school. Students shared their culture
by singing, dancing, reciting poetry, preparing foods, and sharing traditions
and customs. The performances were
followed by a dance in the cafeteria.
The event was well attended and continuously proves to be an asset to
our high school.
The high school
administrative team was inserviced in “Service Learning.” This concept is a development from the
P.A.C.E.S. (partnership for advancing character education in schools)
project. Many ideas were developed and
supervisors are prepared to share project ideas with our teachers.
On January 31, Dr. W. Daggett
from the International Center for Leadership in Education presented School
Reform, “Putting Pieces Together: Begin
with the end in Mind” to the administrative team. The presentation was viewed via webcast. The high school’s distance learning lab was
enlightening and informative.
