The BOE(Board of Education) meeting on Jan. 24th
was a short one.
- A
plaque was presented to Mr. Paul Hodson in recognition of his service to
the BOE.
- Ratification
of the EHTEA agreement for 7/1/06-6/30/09 was announced. See last weeks
article for details
- A
2/21/06, 6 PM, date for a joint meeting with the BOE and Township
Committee was confirmed. This meeting is open to the public and will be
followed by a BOE budget meeting.
- Mrs.
Susan Hinlicky, Intermediate teacher, received a $500 grant.
- The
lowest bid on the new Davenport School was Tamburro Brothers. This is the company
that also built the Joy Miller School. Dr. Heery noted that is was exactly
1 year ago on the 24th that the bond referendum was approved.
Bids on the Slaybaugh School occur on 2/7.
- A
member of the public asked for an update on the district’s music program.
Dr. Miller announced a site visit to another school was planned to see how
their music program was ran. A meeting with teachers K-12 was scheduled to
get their input and feedback.
- A
member of the public inquired if it would be possible to post the actual
dates of the BOE meeting with times on the district’s web site.
- No
date was set but there will be a Curriculum Meeting to look at the
district’s Math & Science programs.
- A
Policy Meeting is to occur on 1/31.
- Vice-President
Mr. Castanello reported that a meeting with Assemblymen Jim Whelan was
productive. Assemblymen Whelan promised to contact the SCC(School
Construction Corp).
- The
proposed School Budget information is to be posted on the school web site
(www.eht.k12.nj.us.) on or about 2/1.
- The
proposed 06/07 school calendar was mentioned. A survey of random teachers
& parents is to be conducted to get reactions on possibly decreasing
the number of days to Spring Break and getting out of school sooner. The
first day of school for staff will be 9/1/06.
- Student
representatives announced:
- A
swap with a few Mainland High School Honor students will take place on
2/8. These students will experience a “typical “ EHT HS honor student’s
day and our students will go to Mainland sometime towards the end of Feb.
- The
HS Mock Trial team made it to the second round .
- The
Key Club Volley Ball Marathon is coming up.
The following personnel changes were approved:
- Ms.
Saundra Vander Valk, Swift Sign Language Interpreter, was hired to replace
Ms. Harris who resigned.
- Ms.
Meredith Mattern, 4th grade at Miller, was hired to fill Mrs.
Peterson’s position while Mrs Peterson is on extended leave of absence.
- Ms.
Renee Smith, 3rd grade at Miller, will start maternity/child
rearing leave on 4/14 and return 9/1/06.
- Mr.
Carlton Treen, III, High School, submitted his letter of resignation with
an effective date of 6/30/06.
- Mr.
Peter Collesano, Eagle Academy Health & Phys. Ed., was hired to
replace Mr. Davis who resigned.
- Ms.
Gale Clifford, Remedial Services at Swift, is on medical leave without pay
from 2/8-6/30/06.
