This meeting, at which all Principals as well as administrators of Personnel, Food Services, Facilities, Transportation, Technology and Special Education presented their proposed budget, was open to the public. All additional budget meeting are also open to the public and will be held in the BOE room at the Alder Ave. Middle School. Here is a list of those meetings which all start at 7 PM: Thursday, February 5 Tuesday, February 19 Wednesday, February 27 Tuesday, March 4 Wednesday, March 5 Thursday, March 6. The final adoption of the 2008-2009 EHT School District Budget will take place during the Superintendent’s Report at the March 28 BOE meeting at 8 PM. In the Public portion; Ms. Fran Murphy, proposed that the Media Center at the High School be named after Mr. Harry Gessner, a former teacher at the High School. As part of his legacy, a scholarship program was established to benefit EHT students. The BOE will take it under advisement. Mr. Pete Castellano spoke briefly about the new funding or aid the district will be receiving. While it’s good news that the district will be receiving a 20 % increase (works out to be the amount of aid the district has lost in the last several years)the bad news is that a cap on how much a budget can be increased still exists. For high density growth district such as ours, that means that it doesn’t matter how many new students are added, budgets can only in crease by so much. Under Committee Reports; The Technology Committee had met the previous week and mostly discussed the proposed budget for 08-09. Building and Grounds- PAL obtained a grant which will be used to put fences around all of our schools. Also discussed were some future possible projects, such as an air purification system and paving of a parking lot at Davenport.
