Mr. Bretones, who is replacing the retiring Zed Robinson, is currently the Vice-Principal at the William Davies School in Mays Landing and will start on Aug. 12, 2008.

Good-byes and Thanks for a job well done were then given to Yaser Khalid and Rhett Williamson, the 07/08 Student Representatives to the BOE. Kristen Beatty and Dhara Vyas were then introduced as the Student Representatives for the 08/09 school year. Student representatives are picked by High School staff.

Dr. Heery recapped the implemented plan due to safety concerns and liability issues for this year’s High School Graduation. Check your graduating student’s packet or go to the district’s website, www.eht.k12.nj.us for details. The Graduation Ceremony is to start at 6:10 PM.

            In the Public Portion:

  • Mr. Dave Crawford, Middle Schools Athletic Supervisor, spoke about the concerns with losing assistant coaches in wrestling and track. Mr. Crawford has had 70 or more students participating in wrestling, 40 or more in track and without an assistant to help oversee training, it can be dangerous for the students. He also spoke about the impact on the elimination of volleyball and cheerleading. 100 students have come out for volleyball which can be broken down into 15 per team, creating multiple teams to play. All the programs keep the students active, involved, are used for behavioral modification and are feeder programs for the High School.
  • A participate of the Girls Swim Team inquired about the decision on the head coaches. Dr. Heery stated that there will be a head coach for both the boys and girls swim team.
  • Ms. Kathy Waszen, President of the Education Association in the district, wanted to know if an outside firm had been hired to fertilize the school grounds as we have employees qualified to do that. An outside firm has not been hired and it was planned to use the employees according to Dr. Heery.
  • Ms. Waszen also informed the BOE that the Education Association was upset as they weren’t notified of posted positions being moved around.
  • Ms. Mary Ann Spiker, BOE member and Chairperson for the HSA’s Project Graduation, thanked the BOE for their support.
