July 8, 2008 was one of the shortest Board of Education (BOE) meetings that I can remember. Dr. Heery announced in his Superintendent’s Report that Wyatt Ozmore and Johanna Chong were among the only 175 seniors in the State of New Jersey to receive a 2008 Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship. The award is $1,500 per year for undergraduate studies. Also, the New Jersey Partners in Education has presented Mr. Bob Zentmeyer with a check for $1000 in recognition of Eagle Academy’s winning partnership program, No Child Left Behind.

            Under Finance/Operations:

Rubbish removal for the 08/09 school year will cost the district $106,560 as per the agreement between the township and the school district.

The school district is responsible for the payment of the 75% of the assigned cost which is $233,000 for 3 resource officers for the 08/09 school year.

The fiscal impact in the 08/09 budget to have First Student transport students to Holy Spirit, St. Vincent, Atlantic Christian, and St. Joseph’s is $545,049.85 which is a 2.89% increase over this past school year.

Renewal of lease agreement with Viking Rowing Foundation, Inc was approved for $7,260.

A change order was approved for $823.26 which brings the contract total to $464,701.93 with Joseph J. Tonetta Electrical Contractor.

The sale of bonds to fund the April 15, 2008 approved referendum was given approval.

Approval of the acceptance of funds, $24,067.71, from the NJ Department of Agriculture Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program was given.

            Under the Public Portion:

I asked how much it cost the district to have off site parking for graduation this year and also, any word on when the solar projects will be started. Dr. Heery replied that it was an additional $2750. to have off site parking. The solar question was referred to the district’s solicitor who stated that there are some minor legal issues that must be resolved. He estimated it would take no more than a week for this to happen.
