Mr. Jones works at the Swift Elementary Building. He will be honored 2/29 in Princeton.
Ms. Erika Wachter received a National Letter of Intent to Syracuse University on a Field Hockey Scholarship.
The New Jersey Education Association has awarded EHT School’s Professional Development Committee for its excellence in providing job-embedded and collaborative professional development. This prestigious award is given in recognition of EHT School’s local professional development plan, which incorporates excellent professional development practices and experiences. Members of the committee recognized in this award are: Ms. Joetta M. Surace, Director of Human Resources, Ms. Missy Peretti, Principal of Alder Ave. Middle School, Ms. Maria Dolbow, Chairman and School Reading Specialist, Ms. Linda Smith, Alder Ave. Middle School Reading Specialist, and Ms. Linda Szypula, Fernwood Middle School Science Teacher.
The district met the requirements as monitored by the NJ Department of Education, Office of Special Education Programs.
Dr. McCartney spoke about the KidsKlub and half days for the 08/09 school year. The district was looking into the possibility of providing PM coverage on those ½ days. Preliminary results indicate that it will not be possible but the issue, which affects 500-600 students, will be revisited at a later date.
A letter from Horizon Blue Cross/Blue Shield was read by Ms. Allen stating that a laptop had been stolen and created a security breech as identifying information on 519 out of our 975 employees was on that laptop. BC/BS notified all employees as to which category they fell into. For the 519 employees, BC/BS will pay for a free credit reporting service for a year.
Dr. McCartney also spoke about our music program and recognized the following students:
All South Jersey Junior High String Ensemble- Edward Lin, violin1, and Dennis Krasnokutsky, String Instructor.
All South Jersey Junior High Chorus- Olivia Higbee, Eboni Beck, Dana Baker, Samantha Clayton, Sarah Higbee, Andrea Lewis, Jocelyn Moore, Chad Seamon, Dan Sullivan and Chorus Directors Diana Fogleman, Stephen Beddia, and Pamela Barnes.
All South Jersey Junior High School Band – Melissa Weiss, Sanghoon Eric Hong, along with Band Directors Mark Kadetsky and Michelle Marano
All South Jersey High School Symphonic Band – Brian Casas, James Tucker and Band Directors Dominic Scalfaro and Anita Collings

In the Public Portion:
Several students requested that the BOE consider half days for the state proficiency assessment test to be given on March 5,6, and 7 to the Juniors. Dr. Heery replied that there are already 13 half days, scores have not improved with ½ days in the past, it’s a busing nightmare if only the High School is on ½ days, it only effects the Juniors, and due to a recent ruling by the NJ Superior Court, it is in the best interest of the school district to limit half days due to liability issues.
Under the Committee Report section:
There will be a Curriculum meeting, open to the public, at 6 PM on the 19th prior to the Budget meeting scheduled for 7 PM. Both meeting will be held in the BOE room at the Alder Ave. Middle School.
Transportation reported that Bus Radio will start to be installed in the next 10 days.
The following personnel were approved:
The next BOE meeting will be on February 26, 2008 at 8 PM in the BOE room of the Alder Ave Middle School.
