Dr. Heery started his Superintendent’s Report of the August 12, 2008 Board of Education (BOE) meeting by stating that the school will open on time Sept. 3rd. (Wed, the 3rd and Thurs. the 4th will be on early closing schedule, except for Kindergarten students who will be on a regular schedule, and Fri will be the 1st full day for all students.) Contingency plans, if they are needed, have been made to accommodate any problems at the High School which as he stated “will be inconvenient for staff and students but will only be temporary” The paving of the parking area of the High School was delayed slightly due to the weather but started on the 13th. He went on to say that the packet of information was mailed and should have been received by the time parents/guardian(s) are reading this. Contact your student’s school if the packet with the bus passes, schedules for Middle and High school students, school calendar, etc has not been received. Just a reminder that Orientation for incoming Freshmen will be held on Thurs. 8/21/08 from 10-1 PM in the high school football stadium with a rain-date of the 22nd. Transportation to and from will be provided and again, bus passes should have been received for this event. Also, each High School student had required reading for their English class over the summer and is to have completed the book(s) by 9/4/08. College Prep I-West Side Story by Irving Shulman, CP II – To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee, CP III – Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston, and CP IV – Brave New World by Aldous Huxley. For Honors English and AP English, check the school web site at eht.K12.nj.us, click on Academics and then the summer reading list. One parent Thanked the BOE for approving the field trip in the spring to Fla for the Baseball team in the Public Portion. Some Items Under Finance/Operations:

The next BOE meeting will be on 8/26 at 8 PM in the BOE room of the Alder Ave. Middle School. I will be on vacation but someone to cover the meeting, so I can do a report when I get back. If you haven’t joined the HSA, please do so now. Why is it important? Without members, our organization is in danger of dying off and the programs we support such as Summer Enrichment Program, Project Graduation, these Current article, etc, with it. Click onto our web site, www.ehthsa.com, and then on the membership information link. It’s free to join and if you have High School Seniors, then you must be a member in order for your student to qualify for the HSA scholarship.
